Gillian Proctor Speaking on ‘Structure, constraint and sexual provocation – the corset’

Posted on Nov 11, 2014

Our regular meeting on the 10th of November was well attended by members from our own club in addition to members from Rotary mother club Market Harborough, and sister club Kibworth and Fleckney thanks to a talk from Gillian Proctor, Programme Leader for Fashion & Contour Design at De Montfort University. Her talk, which referenced Market Harborough business The Symington corset factory, covered the history of underwear for woman and it’s relationship with style, social norms, the female body, art and the influence of both World War’s. A fascinating talk which Gillian kindly cut down by 50% to fit in with our morning meeting was well received by everyone with us all learning a great deal.
